Gollum's exercise continued....Part 2

Lisa (aka) French
Genevieve had spent most of the day preparing for the dinner party. She looked at the clock and knew she had just enough time to get herself ready. She ran up the stairs and quickly changed clothes. She stood in front of the mirror and and let out a heavy sigh, "this is as good as it gets" she mumbled. Out of no where Marcel appeared and said "you look gorgeous Genevieve". He leaned in and kissed her forehead. She was sure she could already smell whisky on his breath. " I see you started early, sweetheart". He gave her a sheepish grin, feeling guilty. "I'm sorry I didn't even pour you a glass of wine". "That's OK, I am almost finished..... now I am definitely ready to have one". He quickly disappeared. As she walked back out to the terrace she admired the work she had done. The table looked perfectly set and she was proud of her accomplishment. It wasn't a typical setting and she hoped the bosses wife, Sarah would be impressed. As she sipped her wine she faintly heard the doorbell and instantly a lump rose in her throat. She made her way to the door, pressing her clothes with her hands, took a deep breath and answered the door. She opened the door and instantly let out a gasp. There stood Marcel's boss Findlay McLean wearing a full Scottish ensemble kilt and all. "Well hello there wee lassie, you dinnie think I would come to the festivities not wearing me tartan did ya? He then patted his sporran that laid in front of his burgundy plaid kilt. Genevieve stood speechless, she looked over at his wife Sarah for support. "Aye missie, can ya believe this crazy man o' mine". Suddenly she could hear Marcel laughing in the background, they all began laughing. She immediately realized that they had played a practical joke on her, she found herself starting to laugh uncontrollably. The ice had been broken. Marcel was right they were a wonderful couple and had a great sense of humor. They talked for hours, he reminisced about wanting to travel back to the highlands one day to see what he called the "Motherland". Not only had she landed the job, but she was sure this was the first of many evenings they would share with the McLean's.

Tell him the drinks are on the house.
woohoo, I'm the first to post !
I'd read your novels anytime......you certainly grabbed my attention and hooked me right away.
I admit, it might have been something to do with the scottish kilt LOL. For a minute there I thought I might be reading about my favourite scotsman - Jamie from the Diane Gabaldon series.
Keep on writing girl !...wouldn't it be nice to be able to quit your day(night)job.
Cheers,
Bre

These exercises are making blogland shine this holiday!
Love this, French. I'm so glad you continued it. You have a natural flow, a natural sense of story.
Yes-I'm a nurse, I studied interior design, too. Lots in common there, no? :-) Elizabeth Berg (Talk Before Sleep is one of my favorite novels, followed by Range of Motion)is just an example of another author (besides myself and besides you) who is an RN. I am Gollum/Michael. LOL I always wrote lengthy nurse's notes...I think that nursing was the very best background I could have had, better than an MFA in creative writing. Nurses (as you know) are taught to observe people from the inside out. It is only natural that you have found joy with words, as well as design. It's all mixed up, this grab bag of talents. I think this is a reason why so many bloggers found their way to RMS--it was a way to write, a form of expression, along with a design flair.
My Internal Critic is telling me that I must get to Publix and Kroger, or all of the Rich's frozen roll dough will be gone, lol. I don't want to be the one to tell my mother that we can't have her special rolls. :-)
((hugs))
For being a Quebec Francophone, you sure have one 'helluva' Scottish accent. (Grin)
Encore Madame Lisa!!!!
