Metamorphosis Monday

When we first moved into this home we had no idea how we were going to tackle these huge cathedral ceilings and massive walls...however, I did know that because of the architecture I wanted the fireplace to stand out so we added the green color to that wall, the green is in the same family as the sofa. The new TV no longer fit in the armoire so it had to be moved to the bedroom and this is what I was left with...ugh...not the look I was going for, but time, money etc...you can't completely see it but that wall goes way up...

Then I had these mis-treatments going on too...nothing was working and I was becoming increasingly frustrated..then hubby and I realized other than the huge TV wall the problem was the fireplace it was much too traditional for the look we were trying to achieve and the paint needed to be carried on to that huge monstrous wall..yikes! I love my big round mirror and assumed because of it's size it was best placed on the biggest wall.... but thanks to some very patient ladies from RMS and a wonderful hubby that big bad boy had to be moved!

Finally, the look we wanted, cream glass tiles, a hearth and a big chunky mantel..and look the mirror fits much better here! All things by trial and error. Don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and try new things.../a>I loved that big 3 piece armoire when we bought it and now those two end pieces are sitting in my garage...I need to find something to do with them but what??? hmmm that's a project for another date...

It's always a work in progress but getting there...I just wish that once I could complete a room from beginning to end without having to wait for the money to do it;) We are planning to add a header above the TV and add some much needed lighting for the space. This is the room we live in the most...but hubby says nothing more inside until we start on the backyard...it's a mess maybe one day I will have my tropical getaway back there...maybe....

All I know is that I am so lucky to have a handy man because if not we sure wouldn't have this much done;) Don't forget to check out more of the Met Monday's ideas just click on the badge on my side bar to take you to Susan's and the list!

Hugs French;0)

The fireplace looks gorgeous and the mirror is perfect there. My last house had those really high vaulted ceilings and I loved the volumn they gave to the house. You did a wonderful job. Hugs, Marty

It turned out so good. With the extra two pieces maybe you could turn one into a place for extra storage for your bathroom if it would fit. So many possibilities with these two pieces. They don't have to look like two pieces that came with an armoire. Can't wait to see what you do with them. Maybe save it for another Monday!!

French... those darn big screen TV's... since getting ours, I just sit in the family room and think about how I can rearrange the furniture to keep the big black hole from being THE focal point!

Your room looks great! love the fireplace! love the subtle colors too...

I kept looking at that first picture thinking that's not how I remember Frenchie's house from RMS. Duh!! What a fantastic makeover.
I hope you are feeling okay. We've all slowed down on the blogging but I miss those almost daily comments back and forth. It was a good time but it's time to move forward and take on new tasks and challenges.
hugs, b.

Hi French...I love your mirror over the fireplace...it looks perfect there! I also love the new bigger mantel...the color of the mantel looks so good with the mirror, too! I always wish I could just do a room all at once, too...but it's probably good I can't because I change my mind mid project sometimes. Great Before and After! Susan

I'll bet moving that mirror was a HUGE chore. Did the hubby look at you and roll his eyes at least once lol. The end result was worth all the hard work. It really is beautiful! I love the changes to the fireplace...and the mirror looks right at home!

It's amazing how that mirror came alive in the new space! A fantastic met monday!

The mirror is perfect above the fireplace. It's funny, I would have come to the same conclusion about it needing to be on the biggest wall. What did you do with the artwork that was above the mantle, it's a really nice piece. As always, love what you do. We certainly understand doing things as you can, the money tree is wilting! Kathy

this is just beautiful! you have done a great job. I love the green...I have a wall or two that are similar! I totally understand the vaulted ceiling and talllllllll wall issues...I too have those. The round mirror just looks perfect there...it softens the edges of the straight lines of the walls and ceilings!
thanks for sharing this with us!

Hey Frenchie...I have always loved this transformation...you are amazing with all that decorating talent! Thanks so much for the sweet birthday wishes and thanks for the advice on my style...I read what you wrote and I thought 'cottage chic???' Is this girl making up words to fit me & my style!!! lol Then I googled it and I was shocked!! It is a real term and I love it....I have always had two sides in me (well ok 4 if you gotta count the wide hips) but I love rustic country & yet I love cottage style yet not so much white..I never can make that work for me...I love painted furniture...I love wallpaper...I love checks and toile and florals...I will squeal over a rusty plow and over a delicate embroidered hankie...I love the warm darker colors but yet I can see a soft buttery yellow or blue room and just sigh....I have issues!!! lol But thanks so much for putting a name to at least half my issues! lol Love ya girl...have a great week!
