I apologize for the quality of the pics but several were taken with my camera phone and somewhat blurry;) My client's table and chairs were a typical traditional cherry set with peach colored seats. She wanted a more contemporary room, so we began with painting the chairs and table black and replacing the fabric on the cushions!
The room before...
As some of you know I have been trying to help my friend decorate her new home. I guess you could say she has been my first client of sorts. Her budget was only $250.00 so we did the best we could with this budget;) Hope you enjoy the pics....she is really happy with the final outcome and I guess that's what truly matters.;) There are still a few things she wants to finish accessorizing the room but overall she is completely ecstatic with the outcome!
The first step....painting the chairs
The chairs re-covered...what a difference! They look new again!
We moved away from the typical builder beige to this green color.. and I sewed the drapes which are a tan linen... and added some bamboo blinds!!
The piece seen here on the wall was actually a headboard from a bed but was the right price and feel for the room at a $35.00 cost!
Added some shades to the current chandelier for a completely different look!
Took an existing gold framed mirror and painted it silver...took some scrap fabric that I had used in my son's room and framed them for some cheap artwork! Frames were only $5 each at Wally world;)
The buffet is actually an old stereo cabinet and actually the radio still works! It had been painted black already so it matched perfectly...cost FREE!!So there you have it....some paint....fabric and a few gently used pieces and the room has been completely transformed into a cozy, contemporary updated space!
Still a few things needed, but overall a huge transformation with a minimal budget and best of all a happy homeowner!!

Wow this is some great creativity flowing in this room- I cannot believe that great wall piece was a headboard!!! What a fantastic idea! Then you placed the little votives on it to give it even more WOW factor!!

We'll all I have too say is of course it turned out perfect, the room was done by the best designer around. As you said before, wrong profession picked but their was a reason for that also.

I wouldn't have guessed the paint could change a cherry dining room so much. Just bought a table/chairs of Craigs List. The top is a little rough and apparently a veneer...know any good furniture refinishers?
Wonderful job. There is something about having to use creativity instead of money that almost always makes the end result better, I think.

OH MY GOSH! I just found your blog and this entry! I am planning on painting my dining room furniture black and it is almost EXACTLY like this! So..what I want to know is...did you spray paint? regular paint? high gloss? sand and prime first? Wow, any help would be awesome.. I cannot believe the room! amazing!! simply amazing! Brenda

I spray painted the furniture....first was a really good cleaning something high strength...next a light sanding on the chairs paying special attention to the scrolling...used a satin spray paint and it is easy but very temperature sensitive to best to be done while it's at least 65 degrees or warmer...the table I actually used a small hand sander on it took about an hour or so of sanding and spray painted also believe it or not...the key is to top coat it with a clear coat to protect it! Hope that helps!!! French;)

Hi, I have similar Queen Anne style dining room furniture for my kitchen. I plan on painting them and new fabric for the chairs. I have a shiny lacquer finish on the top and was wondering if the table you did have one too. What did you do to remove the finish? Just sanding it?
