Fabric 101

One of the things I have learned to love is fabric..Above is one of my latest sewing projects....I fell in love with this material and have decided to make curtains with it...I want to have them in my living room...but that means re-painting and re-covering chairs...am I crazy??? Kelly has been the culprit to my love of fabric and she has been teaching me a lot about sewing...she is a seamstress...and does amazing work!!
Despite the fact that most of these I won't personally use I wanted to show you the fabrics and my thought process with each of them...let's see how different we each see things..

The above fabric is an ultra suede...perfect for recovering chairs or an ottoman..yes?

A tone on tone linen stripe this would make beautiful drapes....

An olive green chenille type fabric perfect for accessory pillows or re-covering an ottoman...

This plaid reminds me of a Ralph Lauren type chair for a stately type library or office.....what do you think?

Oh lookie here....toile that's beige and red with wildlife instead of people this reminds me of a vintage room that shabby chic cottage style....or maybe something French???

This beautiful linen fabric didn't show up well but is incredible in person, this would make beautiful drapes for a bedroom don't you think? Paisley look with greens, golds, so many options here.....

I fell in LOVE with this fabric the colors are so warm and the pattern is beautiful...imagine where and how you could use this....so many possibilities....

I love this fabric I think it would be wonderful with an Asian theme.....beige linen with raspberry roses imagine using it with a slate colored tweed.....how yummy would that be? or do you see country???

Once again my pineapple fabric...do you think it works with my British Colonial decor?.......
Hope you enjoyed touring the fabrics.....this is just a few of the fabrics we have collected...see something you like? See something you would want?? What would YOU be willing to spend for a custom pair of drapes? Just food for thought....I have been really busy lately buried in life...I hope to try and get around to see each and every one of you soon!! There are several of you so it may take a while but just know each and every one of you are always in my thoughts and prayers!!
Hugs and much love French;) xoxoxo

Lisa good morning darling... what a great fun post.. I adore fabrics.. can get lost in the many ideas one can create with them. I especially loved the plaid, screams comfort to me. The toile with the red bird stole my heart..now the the small rose one.. says country, country chic or shabby chic.. but if you put it with plaids I can see French Country..hummm wonder if I need to take some time to go fabric shopping????
Lisa.. I want you to know I much I value your friendship, prayers and all your kind words darling... they mean the world...I can't wait to see your new draperies...go forth and conquer my friend...tell hubby this is just some more of that "bling" a gal needs in her life...lol.. hugs ~lynne~

Sometimes I feel like a slug when I go visit you all and see the ideas you are toying with. But, it makes me happy to just see what you're thinking about. To get to see the end result is just a big bonus.

I also make my own drapes., and I always love creating the designs myself. :) Chat soon at my place! When you do come over., don't miss the love story of a couple on my 2/26 post., on TThursday. They celebrated 67 yrs of marriage and I took them a teaparty & served them. The gentleman (though I didn't write in the post) has early stages of Alzheimers., which makes the story even more precious. Hugs and kisses Ms. Lisa! Oh, I just love fabric, all of them, I can always dream up something. I just redid my LR with a fabulous tulip linen for sommer and just did a post on a beautiful stripe that I'm using for the new drapes I'm making for the familyroom. I could take all of these fabrics and use them somewhere. Hugs, Marty

Hi Lisa! I enjoyed the fabric tour. I love fabrics too and I do sew when I am not lazy. So many possibilities you can do with fabric which changes the look of the room. I am attracted to the prints with orange in them...Christine

I know what you mean about being buried in life!

These fabrics are all beautiful...I'll take one of each, lol.

Given the current economy, it would have to be a killer deal for me to spend the money for a splurge like this. As in hundreds, not thousands.

Michael said...

For that price, it's a steal! Now I know who to hit up when I need curtains!

Bo said...

Hi Lisa...you can sew? I wish I knew how to...probably wouldn't have the patience it takes for that...All the fabrics were lovely...I really liked the plaid & of course, the toile! Sending you a big hug, ♥ Bo

Hey French, Good to hear from you again. I'm with you on fabrics. I have piles of it just waiting to become something. Like when I was recovering my dining room chairs I bought a cute fabric that reminded me of bandanas with the little paisleys everywhere, a few plaids, and a window pane check and a really cute floral somewhat like that last one you have featured. I see that red bird toile on the Ballard's website and I love it everytime. I could see a wingback in that....I watched you the other night on RMS - it was fun to hear your voice! You guys were lookin' good! ~ Robyn

French, It is good to see you popped into blogland. I loved your fabric tour. While I am not in the mood to commit myself to making drapes, I am seriously considering making table linens. The ones on the market such. What ever happened to table linens? They all look so cheap. I love the colors you have selected. I do sew. I used to do it all of the time. I really need just sit down and get busy. Hugs, Terrie

I love all of these fabrics, the paisley and the toile most of all! The warm colors are what I have in my br, they make me feel all cozy and safe. My dr is a blank white canvas and I am going to use these colors in there eventually, too.

Ooh, so many pretty fabrics you've got there. Have you noticed that every one is in the gold family? You must have something for that color, eh?

Hey French Fry! I love love love all of the fabrics... especially the pineapple one! I love the cream and the gold! Very nice...

I need to learn how to sew... I used to sew a little.. my Mom used to make all of me and my sister's clothes during grade and junior high school! When we got into High School... we wanted to wear designer clothes like Sergio Valente and Sasoon Jeans etc... but my Mother was a seamstress for may years... I am surprised that her talents didn't rub off on me!

I love the fabric woman....

I miss you like crazy!

LOts of gorgious fabrics here.. I liked the grey with roses!! :-) probably would have had that in my bedroom! :-) (kind of romantic and airy)
I personally like voven/woven/vowen (?) in patterns... thick fabric that still looks so delicate...all in the same color.... and I would prefer creme. :-)

So glad you're back! ... I see that you were underCOVER of FABRIC! he he! :-)

I am in love with fabrics also and today shopped with Mom in Fabricland and purchased the funkiest fabric for my kitchen windows. They have panels with women dressed in vegetables. I think they'll be a nice conversation piece. LOL!

So glad you have Kelly to partner with in your new business. :-)

Lisa, this is great selection of fabrics! Sewing can be so therapeutic.
(A tip: Probably Kelly has already passed this on, but ensure the fabric is the proper weight and weave for your project.)
