Metamorphosis Monday

Sponsored by Susan here

In the very early days of RMS I posted my bedroom. It wasn't nearly finished but I wanted some input on how to move forward. What I discovered very quickly were that several people were very helpful, some were just down right mean and that the colors of the year seemed to be---- blues and browns and they were showing up all over the RMS site.

After much looking and shopping and searching for ideas, I eventually was able to put this together. Much better than the previous. Yet, something wasn't quite right...

Ah, this looked much better....but alas I still wasn't satisfied with the final result...primarily because it didn't speak to my true style...The British Colonial style that I love...so after much research and lust over the bed below I broke down and bought the new bed...

Of course changing the bed meant changing everything else...Hubby continued to shake his head in complete disbelief at me...after all we had just really finished the bedroom after almost 5 years then here I went changing it...yes again!

I love the bed, and I love the feel of the room now. I haven't been able to get the plantation shutters yet, so I opted to purchase these shorter shutters from Craig's list for $35 and stained them to match the bed. There are so many things in here that Kelly helped me with including the making of the bolster, curtains and coral pillows. In fact she even helped me paint the room, she's a God send! For those that don't know Kelly is a fellow RMS lady that I met who actually now lives about 5 miles away from me;)

Love the look for the summer but still felt as though something was missing and then I found these pictures which I adore...I think they look wonderful yet don't distract from the beauty of the headboard, which to me is a work of art in itself!

I'm still not sure about this little spot as you walk into the room, eventually would like to get a flat panel TV instead of the big armoire... and want to replace the dressers as well...would love to have a spot for a leather bench at the bottom of the bed or maybe a chaise....yes I know patience.......

Found this fabric below and loved it! In total cost me $42 for 9 yards! Can't beat a deal like that and the colors and print really follow the "theme" I am trying to achieve.

I know the mirror looks to be hung a little low but if it were any higher I couldn't see in it (yes I'm short) but in reality the new chest of drawers I want is shorter and then the mirror will look better.

All in all it's been a great learning process and I am loving the changes so far....I have seen grass cloth and beams on the ceiling of one room and would love to try that.....maybe (he he) who knows what the next look will be! Hoping to get the real plantation shutters some time this year! Hope you enjoyed the tour! The bottom line is that I buy almost everything on sale,(well almost) but half the fun is the hunt isn't it? Finding that right piece, or fabric or pillow etc..?

Happy hunting!!

Hugs French;)

Great post. I loved seeing the before and all the evolving changes. I LOVE the final project and the plantation shutters will be gorgeous, but the short shutters look great also. Marty

It looks beautiful! Is your bed mahogany or black? As you know I'm going to be redoing my bedroom soon so looking for furniture. Our room is small so I think I'm going to go with some wood stained furniture & some distressed cream furniture so it will be more of a nantucket/british colonial look (I hope anyway)

I love the change, French. The room looks more "You" now, not faddish or anything. It's very pretty....Christine

OH! What a peaceful, gorgeous getaway of a room. I am IN LOVE with that coral colored bolster. Just YUMMY! The whole room has such a beautiful easy brezzy style. You know...as I was scrolling I was thinking about seagrass and beams on the ceiling. Perfection!!

It's funny - because when I was looking at your "before" pics I was thinking...this is really pretty but it sure doesn't look like French. Then you posted your afters and the new bed...and I said yep! That's French! Love, love, love it! Wish I had a "Kelly" right down the street, too. :-) Blessings, Barb

Loved walking through the transformation of your bedroom. I too am wanting the plantation shutters in my room and Jacob's. I just need to get someone out here to measure. It's just one of those things I procrastinate. I love your new bed and wall color. Being a shorty myself I thought your mirror looked fine! - LOL. ~ Robyn

You did a wonderful transformation. You gave the room a more grown up, sophisticated feel. It's probably better than any hotel room you have enjoyed in Jamaica!

My bedroom is like your before. I just can't seem to get the feel I want. When the weather breaks I will be painting and changing things. My husband, like yours will wonder why because I just bought the bedding and made "mistreatments". But I'm not lovin' it and so I need to change it once again! I hope to get the same results you have in your redo. LOVE IT and that bed is amazing.

Oh Frenchie...what wonderful memories you have brought back to me this morning...I remember when I first met you..You were talking about going to designer school and I was amazed at all the talent you have when it came to decorating..Everything you touched just turned to gold..I have a bedroom that is just sitting....I can't for the life of me figure out the direction I want to go in there..I hate to even walk in that room...I am serious...I can't get a vision on that room...you see how I decorate my house...tell me what my style is! lol lol Seriously I need help in that room...it is the one room that still has the original paint color as when we bought the house...I know I can't believe it either considering the living room has had over 6 different colors in 8 years! lol Your bedroom is just so dreamy..loved seeing it again! have a great week dear friend!

Beautiful room, I love it!! I know what you mean about some people being mean over at RMS. I posted once and someone told me my bedroom was hideous. Ok, maybe it was, but they didn't have to put it so bluntly.

Lover your bed, great choice. Actually, I love everytying in your room. It is beautiful!

Girl, I wouldn't even bother with the shutters. I LOVE the way you have the windows done only on the bottom. Why mess with perfection? I think this room is glorious, and I can't imagine why you want to replace the rest of the furniture. It looks like it matches perfectly, and it's so pretty!

I think you need a little rug next to the side of the bed... something... oh, I don't know. British Colonial? LOL

French your bedroom belongs in the Caribbean! Say, Trinidad perhaps? lol!! I love it so!

I'm a working gal now so my bedroom will be getting the 'jewelry' to use your word!

Thanks for your advice on my room! I love all your met mondays!

French... I love the way you're working on your room... step by step.. I think most of our rooms really evolve over time anyway... some things we love and never want to part with, others... I tastes change and so do some of the things that we once loved by now.. alas... not so much... That's what makes the decorating so much fun!

keep evolving! Dixie

Wow...what a huge transformation. I've only seen the "after" pictures posted on RMS so this was quite a surprise to me. Your bedroom looks like a dream come true.

Another shocker was that I always pictured you as tall, 5'8" or 5'10". I'm not sure where I got that idea from. lol

That is gorgeous!!! Ok, do tell, where did you get your bed? Did I not see it? I love the linens, the art...and the place for the flat screen. I see weekend movie time!
